FAQs

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

It's completely normal to feel uncertain about starting therapy, especially if you're accustomed to handling things on your own. Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another, discuss what brings you to therapy, and explore what you hope to gain from the experience. There's no pressure to share everything at once.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

While friends and family can provide valuable emotional support, therapy offers a confidential, professional relationship focused on your mental health. As a licensed therapist, I use evidence-based approaches to help you identify patterns, understand your emotions, and develop strategies that support your well-being.

Do I need medication, or can therapy help on its own?

Therapy and medication can both play important roles in mental health treatment. Some individuals benefit from therapy alone, while others find that a combination of therapy and medication is most helpful. Treatment needs vary, and medication decisions should be discussed with a qualified medical provider.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Therapy is a collaborative process where we work together to explore your concerns, understand patterns, and identify goals that are meaningful to you. Sessions typically involve open conversation, guided reflection, and practical strategies to help you navigate challenges. You are encouraged to participate at your own pace, and there is no expectation to have everything figured out before beginning.

How long will it take?

The length of therapy varies from person to person and depends on your individual needs, concerns, and goals. Some individuals benefit from short-term therapy, while others may find ongoing support helpful. Throughout our work together, we will regularly assess your progress and determine what best supports your needs.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

Getting the most out of therapy involves being willing to reflect, communicate openly, and actively participate in the process. Attending sessions consistently, discussing what is and isn't working, and applying what you learn outside of sessions can contribute to meaningful progress. Remember, therapy is not about perfection but about developing greater awareness and making gradual, sustainable changes.

Do you offer in- person therapy sessions?
